This indicator measures the proportion of new vehicle registration that is for zero-emission vehicles.

Calculations

The number of zero-emission vehicles (battery electric and plug-in electric) registrations is divided by the total number of vehicle registrations.
Comments and limitations

Data for Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Alberta are currently not available due to contractual limitations of the existing data sharing agreement. However, they are included in the Canadian total. Total vehicle type excludes buses, trailers, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, snowmobiles, golf carts, et cetera.

Vehicle registrations can differ from sales if:
1) a person moves to Canada brings a car purchased outside the country, if the car's model year is the current or past year, or
2) a person buys a car but never register it in Canada.
